ACTION OR NON-ACTION VERBS

RECORDANDO CUANDO SE USA EL PRESENT CONTINUOUS

Se usa:

1.     Acciones que están ocurriendo en el momento de hablar.
        I'm cooking a delicious apple cake now

2.      Una actividad en progreso pero que no está ocurriendo en el presente.
Fin de semana no hay clase pero estoy estudiando todo el año en la Eoi de Murcia
         I'm studying English in the Official Language School in Barcelona this year

3.      Hablar de algo que está programado y que ocurrirá en un futuro.
         We are getting married tomorrow afternoon

4.      Cuando hablamos de una acción temporal. NO ES PERMANENTE. 
          I'm living in Barcelona while I'm studying my last English course

5.      Cuando hablamos de tendencias o algo que está cambiando
         The climate is changing due to the action of man
          
6.      Para hablar de algo que ocurre frecuentemente, usando always
         My boyfriend is always giving me lovely presents, he's very generous
         
7.      Para hablar cosas que el interlocutor encuentra extrañas o molestas. Mal comportamiento, queja. Usando
 always
          My girlfriend is always calling me when I'm working. My boss will dismiss me

8. Para verbos activos, que tienen acción
    Shelorck Holmes is looking for a clue
Palabras identificativas:

  • Next week, later, next moths, now, at the moment, these day, tomorrow, but today, today, at present

Estructura afirmativa:    SUJETO +  TO BE + VERBO – ING.

Estructura negativa:        SUJETO + TO BE + NOT + VERBO ING.   

Estructura interrogativa:   TO BE + SUJETO + VERBO - ING?.

Los verbos con –ie al final , se cambian por una - y

Ejemplos:

He isn’t writing a postcard. El no está escribiendo una postal.
She is living in a flat at present. Ella está viviendo en un piso actualmente.
They are flying in a helicopter. Ellos no están volando en helicóptero.
I am not talking on the phone. Yo no estoy hablando por teléfono
Is she visiting a friend?. ¿Está ella visitando a un amigo?
Are you going to Murcia tomorrow?.¿Irás tú a Murcia mañana?

There are action verbs which describe actions:
run, cook, make, read, write, drink, watch, play, wash, pull, push, give, dance, sing, eat, walk, act, sail, improve, count, increase, save, advise, injure, catch, serve, search, collet, communicate, jump, jugde, start, dress, create, design, swin, draw, drop, fly, grow, sleep, laugh, buy,  fell...

 'action verbs' can be used in BE + -ING:

                 
               
 Susan is cooking a delicious cake now    My aunt cooks chicken every Sundays
 está haciendo un pastel en este momento   todos los domingos hace pollo   


 cannot be used in BE + -ING:

Non-action verbs indicate state, sense, desire, possession, or opinion. The most common non-action verbs are:

ABSTRACTbe, believe,know, need, understand, remember, think,  imagine, forget, mean, exist...
FEELINGSlike, dislike, love, hate, fear, envy, care... 
SENSEShear, see, feel, smell, taste,  sound,  seem 
BELONGINGSown, have, belong, possess


Other verbs non-action:
suppose, agree, matter, prefer, realize, recognize, seem, depend, know, mean.

I love my mother  (I am loving my mother)           
I need a new car  (I am needing a new car)
 I have a big flat = possession(non-action) ( I’m having a big flat)
I can’t talk now. I’m having a meeting= action
